Cobalt Oxide (cobaltous oxide), with the chemical formula CoO, is a metal oxide. It is a black-gray hexagonal crystal powder. It is insoluble in water, alcohol. It is easily reduced to metallic cobalt. It easily reacts with silicon dioxide and silica at high temperatures. Aluminum or zinc oxide reacts to produce a variety of pigments.
Cobalt oxide is an important transition metal oxide. Usually used as the main raw material for the production of cemented carbide, super heat-resistant alloys, insulating materials and magnetic materials, as well as catalysts and dyes in the chemical industry.

2. Enamel and ceramic pigments. Improve the anti-corrosion and abrasion resistance capability when added to enamel materials. In a variety of building materials and household ceramics, the ceramic products smeared by the blue pigments or glaze made by the Cobalt oxide showing a bright color after roasting, which looks more artistic.
3. As catalyst in refined petroleum field.
4. Battery industry. As a kind of high performance battery additives, it has a significant effect to improve electrode performance. Cobalt oxide is also the raw material of electrode material for lithium ion battery.
