Excellent physical properties
Strong solubility: Potassium hydroxide is highly soluble in water, but also soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in ether. This good solubility allows potassium hydroxide to be rapidly and evenly dispersed during solution preparation and reaction, improving reaction efficiency.
Strong hygroscopic: Potassium hydroxide is very easy to absorb moisture in the air and deliquescent, which makes it useful as a desiccant to remove water from alkaline solvents, especially in the treatment of amine and pyridine solvents.
Stable chemical properties and high reactivity
Strong alkaline: Potassium hydroxide is a strong base, and its 0.1mol/L solution has a pH value of 13.5, which makes it extremely active in acid-base reactions, and can react quickly with acids to form salts and water.
Good stability: Potassium hydroxide is stable at room temperature, is not easy to decompose, and can maintain its chemical properties for a long time.
Diverse reactions: Potassium hydroxide can participate in a variety of chemical reactions, such as saponification reaction, nucleophilic substitution reaction, etc. These reactions provide the possibility of potassium hydroxide in a variety of applications.
Broad application with remarkable results
Industrial raw materials: Potassium hydroxide is an important raw material for the production of potassium salts, such as potassium permanganate, potassium carbonate, etc. These potassium salts have a wide range of applications in chemical industry, medicine, and other fields.
Electroplating and printing: In the electroplating and printing industry, potassium hydroxide can be used as an electrolyte and auxiliary agent to improve the adhesion and printing effect of electroplating.
Oil and natural gas refining: In the refining process of oil and natural gas, potassium hydroxide can remove impurities such as organic acids and sulfur compounds, and improve the purity of the product.
Biodiesel production: In the process of producing biodiesel from oils and fats, potassium hydroxide as a catalyst can accelerate the reaction process and improve the yield and quality of biodiesel.
Cosmetics and food industry: Potassium hydroxide also has a wide range of applications in the cosmetics and food industry, such as in the manufacture of nail products, lotions, shampoos, and other cosmetic ingredients, as a food additive and preservative.
Environmental protection and sustainability
Recyclability: The waste liquid and waste generated during the production and use of potassium hydroxide can be recovered and reused through appropriate treatment methods to reduce environmental pollution.
Low toxicity: Although potassium hydroxide is highly alkaline and corrosive, it is less toxic than other strong bases and will not cause serious harm to the environment and human body when used and stored correctly.
